The roots of this ROM - built from the Xperia Play - will bring superior performance compared to other ICS ROM's. As an Xperia Play user myself, we demand the best performance! The kernel and ROM is specifically tuned for Xperia 2011 ICS devices.

COSTOM ROM MIUI FOR NEO L
MIUI Australia

The following article will detail a fresh installation of the MIUI Australia ROM for Xperia 2011 devices, specific to the Xperia Neo L.
A first-installation requires a full system wipe due to the expanded data partition in the custom kernel. Additionally, if you wish to leave the ROM and flash a different kernel, you will have to do a full-wipe again. The best way to uninstall the ROM and kernel is to flash a stock FTF.

Requirements

  1. An unlocked bootloader.
  2. FlashTool v0.9.8.0 or later. Download from here.
  3. Flashtool bundle for Neo L MIUI. Download from here.
    - Additionally, it is required to download the baseband 84 update from here.
  4. Custom kernel for Play (both GSM and CDMA). You have two choices:
    a) Full 720p recording – here. ~344MB total RAM capacity. Not recommended for heavy gaming or multitasking.
    b) Only 480p recording – here. ~377MB total RAM capacity. May improve gaming performance and provide better multitasking. On a fresh install, remember to set your video recording quality to 480 – attempting to record in 720 will result in a crash.
  5. Patience and concentration :)

First steps

  1. Perform a Nandroid backup. The install process must wipe all your internal partitions (SDCard will not be touched).
  2. Copy the latest full ROM ZIP to the “Download” folder on your SDCard.

Flashing

  1. Install Flashtool on your PC, along with the Fastboot drivers for your device. A detailed guide on this will come soon.
  2. Flash the FTF bundle you downloaded above first. To enter Flash-mode, hold the ‘Back’ key while inserting USB. This will erase your internal partitions to a stock format, ready to be repartitioned by the kernel. A more detailed guide will come soon. If you downloaded a baseband update, flash it immediately after the main bundle. Be sure to exit and re-enter Flashmode before doing so (unplug and re-plug USB).
  3. Flash the custom kernel you downloaded above straight after the FTF. Remove USB and hold the ‘Search’ key while re-inserting USB to enter Fastboot mode. A more detailed guide will come soon.

First-time setup

  1. After the FTF bundle is flashed, followed by the kernel, you may power on the device. The first boot may take from thirty seconds to one minute, please be patient.
If the device fails to boot after a minute, please start the process again from the beginning. Sometimes (rarely) Flashtool can perform a bad flash.
  2. You will be presented with a first-run setup GUI, which will format system, data and cache partitions once you tap ‘Format’.
Advanced users may quit to CWM Recovery via Menu key if they wish.
  3. After the format is complete and you click finish, the GUI will check the “Download” folder on the SDCard for the latest full ROM ZIP. Press yes and follow the prompts to install MIUI.
If you forgot to copy the update to SDCard, simply press Menu and select Quit  to load into CWM Recovery, where you can mount your SDCard and copy the ZIP, then install it manually.
To enter Recovery on this kernel at a later time, press the “Volume-down” key on the Sony logo at boot. You may have to press it a few times, some devices will have a LED and/or Vibration indicator to help.
Note that, until your system has been installed, the kernel will boot into CWM Recovery or the First-run setup again. In the case of first-run setup, simply quit the GUI to enter CWM. If you still enter recovery automatically after installing the ROM, please repeat the process from beginning and pay close attention to the install process and information in the setup GUI’s.

Downloads/Instructions

Update from previous release

You can automatically download and flash the new update via the “Updater” app. If you wish to manually download, you can do so below. Copy the ZIP to the “Download” folder on the SDCard and reboot to CWM Recovery and install the ZIP as normal, or select “Choose Zip” from the Updater app.
Note that there is a new baseband and kernel for the Xperia Play and Neo L. It is optional but highly recommended, no wipe is necessary. Please see your install guide below for the links – follow it exactly but skip the first FTF and only use the baseband update FTF listed (otherwise your data will be lost).
For detailed instructions or a fresh install, see below.

New install

  1. Download latest full update ZIP and copy it to the “Download” folder on your SDCard. Do not rename it. Download – miuiaustralia_semc-2.11.2_full.zip
  2. Refer to the installation guide for your device:
